Small family businesses suit many home situations. It allows otherwise unemployable family members to contribute to the family’s income or can be an additional job that increases income. Women might prepare food for sale to street vendors or to supply small food stands; feed and nurture silk worms for the silk industry, rear chickens for eggs or goats for milk. There are many opportunities to provide services to the community. Sometimes a small business requires the purchase of equipment, such as a sewing machine for a tailoring business, or when there is a male strong enough to be a rickshaw driver, a family, or several families, might purchase a rickshaw and share the work and profits.
