Help a Family Rewrite Their Future — One Small Loan at a Time

From Struggling to Stable: Panna Akter’s Journey Toward a Brighter Future

Just a few years ago, Panna Akter and her family lived day to day, unsure where their next meal would come from. Her husband, a daily laborer, earned barely enough to survive. They lived in a government shelter in Hatkunduli village, Netrakona—grateful for a roof over their heads, but still trapped in extreme poverty.

Then came an opportunity through PEP funded by PSDI donors.

Panna received a small grant to start a grocery shop from her home. That first step opened the door to stability—and a future. Over time, PEP provided her with saplings, winter clothing, medical aid, and critical support through its income-generating program. With guidance and resources, Panna began raising and selling cows, earning steady profits. In just two years, she managed to profit over Tk. 25,000 ($220) from two cows and is now raising a third.

The family’s financial situation improved dramatically. With additional support from PEP’s microcredit program and income from her store and husband’s labor, they saved enough to purchase land—8 decimals they now proudly own.

Today, Panna’s family eats three meals a day, has access to healthcare, and dreams bigger. She plans to send both her daughters to school and build a secure future for them.

“Our life has changed. I’m deeply thankful to PSDI and its donors,” Panna says.

Invest in Hope. Fuel Possibility. Fund a Microloan Today.

Around the world, millions of hardworking families live in extreme poverty—not for lack of will or ability, but for lack of opportunity. A small loan can change that. Through our Microloan Program, we empower women and families in the poorest communities to start or grow small businesses, generate income, and break the cycle of poverty—permanently.

What’s a Microloan?

A microloan is a small, low-interest loan—often as little as $100—that helps someone purchase a sewing machine, livestock, tools, or inventory to begin earning a sustainable income. It's not a handout—it's a hand up.

Why It Works:

Builds self-reliance and dignity

Supports long-term income generation

Empowers women and marginalized families

Funds are recycled and reused as loans are repaid

You Can Make a Direct Impact.

Your donation of $100, $250, or $500 - or more - can spark a chain reaction of hope and self-sufficiency. Every dollar goes directly to hardworking individuals with a plan, a purpose, and the drive to succeed.
